Tablet Presentation
Each uncoated tablet contains:
Metoprolol Succinate IP 47.5 mg
Eq. to Metoprolol tartrate 50 mg
Telmisartan IP 40 mg
This composition contains telmisartan and metoprolol succinate here, telmisartan works by relaxing the blood vessels and metoprolol helps to reduce the heart rate and blood pressure.
Indications
- Cardiovascular events
- Heart failure
- Diabetic nephropathy
- High blood pressure
About Composition
Telmisartan-
Telmisartan is an antihypertensive drug and belongs to angiotensin receptor blocker.
It is used to treat diabetic nephropathy in patients of type-2 diabetes mellitus
Metoprolol Succinate-
Metoprolol succinate is used in extended release formulations and is selectively inhibits beta blocker
It is used mainly for cardiovascular diseases
Mechanism of Action
Telmisartan inhibits the binding of angiotensin-2 to the AT1 receptors in the vascular smooth muscles and adrenal gland because angiotensin has vasoconstrictor effect and also release the aldosterone.
Metoprolol works by blocking the beta-1 receptors thus decreases the cardiac output by its negative chronotropic effect and inotropic effects
It also has membrane stabilizing effect.
Pharmacokinetics
Telmisartan-
It is absorbed orally
It is 95% bound to serum proteins
It undergoes glucuronidation conjugation
Metoprolol-
It is absorbed orally
It bound to serum albumin
It undergoes hydroxylation and O-methylation
It is excreted via kidneys
Side Effects-
- Headache
- Weakness
- Dizziness
- Slows heart rate
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in liver disorders
- Contraindicated in kidney dysfunctions
